Cirebon City Hosts West Java PKD, Bringing Together Various Cultures

Cirebon, Konntroversinews | Cirebon reaffirms itself as a meeting space for various cultural flows of the archipelago. This city, which has long been known as a node for the exchange of ideas, traditions and social networks, is hosting the 2025 West Java Provincial Regional Culture Week (PKD), a momentum which is believed to be the foundation for the birth of a new civilization towards a superior West Java.

Deputy Mayor of Cirebon, Siti Farida Rosmawati, was present directly to open the series of activities. In his speech, he expressed his appreciation to the West Java Provincial Government and the West Java Provincial Tourism and Culture Office for entrusting Cirebon as the location for holding PKD. According to him, the theme “Caruban Nagri Pangripta Budaya Mapag Pajajaran Anyar” is not just a slogan, but an affirmation of Cirebon’s identity as a center of cultural interaction that continues to transform.

The Deputy Mayor emphasized that PKD must be understood as a shared work space to maintain the sustainability of local culture. He added that the presence of cultural performances and exhibitions from 27 districts/cities is strong evidence that West Java has diversity that deserves to be cared for and celebrated.

“Regional Culture Week is a real effort to preserve, develop and promote the rich culture of West Java,” he said at Kasepuhan Square, Friday (12/12/2025).

At the local level, the Cirebon City Government also continues to strengthen its commitment to cultural advancement. In recent years, the City Government has consistently held city-level Regional Culture Weeks, both offline and online. These efforts are complemented by steps to propose Intangible Cultural Heritage (WBTb). To date, 21 cultural works from Cirebon have been designated at the provincial and national levels, an achievement that reflects ongoing work to maintain regional cultural identity.

PKD 2025 activities are also a wider meeting space for the community. The Deputy Mayor hopes that the entire series of events will not stop at mere cultural celebrations, but will be able to become a stage for tourism promotion that strengthens Cirebon’s position as a cultural and historical destination in West Java.

“Hopefully this year’s PKD will provide inspiration for all of us to continue to love the nation’s cultural treasures,” he said.

Head of the West Java Province Tourism and Culture Service, Lendra Sofyan, added that PKD has become an annual routine program that is important for cultural preservation efforts. As host, Cirebon City is also a meeting point for various cultural expressions from all regions of West Java.

“Even though each region has its own characteristics, this PKD unites us in the same spirit: maintaining culture as the root that strengthens the future,” said Indra.

He emphasized that the presence of dozens of arts groups from 27 districts/cities opens up opportunities for people to get to know each other’s culture. According to him, this interaction is what makes PKD not only a performance event, but also a learning process and sharing experiences between regions.

Indra hopes that this series of activities can increase public awareness of the importance of preserving cultural heritage. “We are optimistic that PKD 2025 can contribute to the progress of West Javanese culture as an integral part of pluralistic Indonesian culture,” he said. ***
