Morowali, WN—Improving the quality of public health is a shared task for both the government and companies. One of them is realized through massive education to raise awareness of the importance of steps to prevent and treat health problems.
As part of the MIND ID group, PT Vale Indonesia Tbk (PT Vale) is committed to playing a role through real contributions in the health sector, including collaborating with local governments in the areas the company operates to provide education to the community and strengthening the role of medical personnel.
In Morowali Regency, PT Vale together with the Morowali District Health Service initiated the Gerak Sehat Bersama program by holding mass education entitled Geser ISPA: Simultaneous Educational Movement for Acute Respiratory Tract Infections.
This activity took place at the Bahomotefe Community Health Center, East Bungku District, to coincide with the commemoration of World Pneumonia Day and National Health Day 2025. This momentum is a real invitation for the public to care more about respiratory health and understand preventative steps that can be taken independently.
In his remarks, the Head of the Disease Prevention and Control (P2P) Division of the Morowali Health Service, Nur Asia Musa, expressed his appreciation to the Company for its contribution in supporting public health programs. “We really appreciate PT Vale for its involvement in every activity we hold. This is a real form of the company’s commitment to public health,” he said.
Meanwhile, Wafir, Head of Bahodopi Project PT Vale, emphasized the company’s commitment to public health. “We believe that the success of the project will not only be measured from an operational perspective, but also from the positive impact we have on the surrounding community. Health is a priority, and through this activity we want to ensure that the community has sufficient knowledge to protect themselves and their families from the threat of ISPA,” he explained.
He added that PT Vale will continue to support health programs that are in line with the principles of sustainability and community welfare.
This educational movement is not just outreach, but a form of concern for the sustainability of public health. PT Vale through this program shows its commitment to the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), especially in the aspects of health and welfare.
By increasing public awareness, it is hoped that the number of ISPA cases can be reduced and the quality of life of the people of Morowali will improve. This activity is proof that disease prevention requires strong collaboration between the government, the private sector and the community.
Furthermore, in Kolaka Regency, PT Vale, through the Kolaka Healthy, Clean and Empowered social environmental program, held Basic Trauma Cardiac Life Support (BTCLS) training for health workers in Kolaka Regency.
Senior Coordinator Occupational Health & Industrial Hygiene Analyst PT Vale IGP Pomalaa, dr. Aditya Hafria Vanani, explained that this BTCLS training was PT Vale’s effort to improve the knowledge, skills and professional attitudes of health workers in comprehensively managing trauma and cardiac emergency patients.
According to him, the selection of health workers from the four sub-districts was based on the high risk of traffic accidents on the axis connecting the Ring 1 area. In addition, most of the BTCLS certification of medical personnel in the area had expired and needed to be renewed.
“PT Vale is here to help facilitate medical personnel being able to renew their competency so that they are able to provide quick assistance when emergency conditions occur in the community,” said Dr. Aditya.
“Another benefit, if there are PT Vale employees or contractors who experience an accident on their way to work, they can be helped by medical personnel who have taken this training,” he added.
During the training, participants were provided with material regarding handling heart attacks, head injuries, chest injuries, broken bones, and emergencies due to collisions that often occur in accidents. After attending the training, health workers are expected to be able to apply these skills both in the ER and in other emergency situations.
Dr. Aditya also revealed that similar training would be held again next year with a quota of 30 participants. “If there are enough participants from the four sub-districts in the empowerment area, we will expand the participants to health workers in Kolaka Regency,” he said.
The Head of Pomalaa Subdistrict, through the Head of Village/Subdistrict Community Development Section, Laode Ndikode, expressed his appreciation to PT Vale for holding this activity. He believes that BTCLS is very important to increase the capacity of medical personnel so that services to the community can continue to be improved.
“This is a good step taken by the company in Pomalaa District, and PT Vale has provided a real example in supporting improving the quality of human resources for medical personnel,” said Laode Ndikode.
Similar appreciation was also conveyed by the Head of the Kolaka Health Service, represented by the Head of the Pomalaa Community Health Center, dr. Alriyani Hamzah. According to him, BTCLS training usually costs a lot of money if it is done independently in big cities like Kendari or Makassar. The presence of PT Vale, which provides free facilities, is a big benefit for health workers in PT Vale’s empowered areas.
“This is a blessing for medical personnel in Pomalaa, Tanggetada, Baula and Wundulako Districts,” said Dr. Alriyani. He hopes that all participants can follow the material well and apply the knowledge they have gained to help people experiencing emergencies. (**)
