JAKARTA, WN—Clean city rivers powered by the collaboration of Environmental Cleanliness (KKH) Mining Industry Indonesia (MIND ID) and PT Vale Indonesia, Tbk (PT Vale) in the Cipinang river festival.
PT Vale’s efforts to create clean and powerful rivers continue, on (31/10/2025) together with the Ministry of the Environment/Life Control Agency (KLH/BPLH) of the DKI Jakarta Provincial Government and BUMN Holding MIND ID planted trees in the Dukuh I reservoir area of East Jakarta in the context of the 2025 Cipinang river festival. This was conveyed by the Head of Corporate Communications of PT Vale Tbk Vanda Kusumaningrum in a press release to journalists on(1/11/2025).
Vanda explained that this activity was part of the Cipinang River Clean Movement which was a pilot project for community-based river management, led directly by Deputy Minister for the Environment Diaz Hendropriyono. The activity involved more than 500 participants from various circles, including high-ranking officials from the Ministry of Environment, Directors of MIND ID, PT Antam Tbk, PT Vale Tbk, river care communities, local communities, and the business world.
“This area will be developed into a water tourism area that will benefit the surrounding community, this is a good idea that came from Mr. Roy.” I appreciate the community and all residents who have played a role in protecting this river. Sedimentation will be removed so that the water flows more smoothly and can be used for tourist activities such as canoeing. “But the most important thing is, don’t let the accumulation of waste happen again,” said Diaz.
He added, “Planting trees is also an important step. Apart from beautifying the area, trees provide the oxygen we need every day. I encourage this activity to continue to be encouraged as part of efforts to increase green open space in Jakarta. Protecting rivers means protecting the source of life. Thank you to MIND ID, Vale, and all parties who contributed to the success of this activity.”
Synergy for River Restoration and Environmental Awareness
The Cipinang River, which stretches 30.4 kilometers from Depok to East Jakarta, is currently categorized as heavily polluted with a waste load of up to 302 tons per month. Through the Cipinang River Festival, the government is trying to increase public awareness to stop throwing rubbish into rivers while strengthening the role of communities that care about rivers in maintaining their cleanliness and health.
Deputy for Pollution and Environmental Damage Control at the Ministry of Environment, Dr. Ridho Sani’s “Roy” ratio, emphasized the importance of discipline and synergy across stakeholders in maintaining water quality. “This movement is a clear example that the government, society and industry players can unite for impactful environmental change,” he said.
Meanwhile, MIND ID Corporate Secretary Pria Utama said that his party’s participation in supporting the conservation of the Cipinang River reflects the company’s commitment to actually protecting the ecosystem, as well as strengthening the spirit of collaboration to preserve the environment for future generations.
“For MIND ID, rivers are not just a flow of water, but a source of life and energy that supports community activities and the mining industry. Therefore, the MIND ID Group will consistently support various efforts to restore and conserve river ecosystems as part of our responsibility to maintain the balance of nature,” said Pria.
PT Vale’s participation in this activity is part of the company’s commitment to sustainable water resource management. As a nickel mining company that uses renewable energy from hydropower in South Sulawesi, Vale places water as a source of life that must be protected together.
“Water is the foundation of sustainability. What we are doing at the Cipinang River today reflects our philosophy that every drop of water must be protected and returned cleaner,” said Bernardus Irmanto, President Director & CEO of PT Vale Indonesia Tbk. “As part of the MIND ID Group, we believe that the responsibility to protect the environment does not stop at our operational areas, but must also extend to public and urban spaces, where the real impact can be felt by society.”
Encouraging Collaboration and Real Action
Apart from planting trees, the 2025 Cipinang River Festival activities also include dredging river sediments, giving appreciation to river care communities, releasing fish in the Dukuh I Reservoir, as well as a MSME bazaar for Dukuh residents.
PT Vale together with MIND ID and KLH hope that this activity will become a model for public private community partnership in sustainable river management and can be replicated in other regions in Indonesia.
“A clean river means sustainable life. Today’s collaboration proves that change can start from the simple action of one tree planted, one piece of rubbish removed, to one empowered community,” concluded Bernardus Irmanto. (**)
